Just to let you know, Only a few days after WordPress version 2.0.6 was released, 2.0.7 has come out. This time the security fixes seem somewhat trivial to put in place (only six files to upload). Version 2.1 is due out quite soon (Feb) so this should be the last update before then. There is no telling what problems 2.1 will cause though!

If people have tried to contact Compuskills or the Project Management Service by email today, we have to apologise as there has been a slight problem (as reported on the Why Dont You Blog). Fortunately, it does not seem to have effected the Web Design service’s email, which appears to be getting through fine.
It appears our server provider (1&1) have had an email outage and not felt it important enough to inform customers of this - nor put any links on the web admin panel.Shame on them.
Hopefully this will be resolved soon and if you have not had a reply to any email submitted, please contact us again.

Ensuring Accessibility?
Filed under: Accessibility, Frequently Asked Questions, Web Design; Tagged as: Accessibility, Frequently-Asked-Questions, Web Design Links4 CommentsWhat can I do to make my sure my site is accessible? The sorts of limitations covered by the DDA include visual impairments, colour blindness, dyslexia and physical impairments that prevent use of a keyboard or mouse. The actions you can take include ensuring that screen readers can read your site, that colours are not crucial to its meaning, that navigation does not require image shape recognition. Make sure your site can be viewed on all browsers (including outdated and text only browsers) and on a variety of output devices - including mobile phones and PDAs.
There are some simple steps you can take. For example, use ALT tags on images, so that a blind user knows what content an image has. Allow users to resize fonts. Make sure there is a high contrast between text and background. Other steps may require a major redesign and you might benefit from specialist knowledge.
Compuskills Web Design service endeavour to adhere to the DDA with all our sites and are able to provide specialist advice on request.

HTML or Dreamweaver?
Filed under: Frequently Asked Questions, Software, Web Design; Tagged as: Frequently-Asked-Questions, Software, Web Design LinksNo CommentsIs it better to write HTML or use a program like Dreamweaver? Learn some basic HTML, whatever you do. You won’t get the most out of any code generator tool unless you know what you are doing. None of the coding programs are quick or easy to learn, in any case.
