Open Source Web Design

If you haven’t yet come across it, the Open Source Web Design site is a wonderful resource where designers can showcase their talents and provide a bit of code for everyone to share.

Visiting this site can, depending on your experience and which themes you check out, provide inspiration and even help people over stumbling blocks with their own code. In short, it is an excellent resource and a benefit to the internet in general.

Sadly, it seems that less and less people are prepared to submit their own designs - visiting it today, the most recent designs were from 22 Jan 07. This is a shame. I don’t know if this is a result of the site owners losing interest, technological problems or simply designer apathy.

If it is one of the first two, then ideally a new site can step in and take over the burden of providing this, if it is designer apathy then that is a shame.

If you are are a web designer of any skill level, please take a moment to code something which can be put onto one of the open source repositories. You never know when your idea may provide the inspiration for the next great website. Hopefully, what ever the reason OSWD seems to have dropped into a coma, we can revive it sooner rather than later!
